Bookplates from Rosalind Bliss

Beddoes BookplateRosalind Bliss trained as a mural painter at Edinburgh College of Art but she turned to engraving later in her career. Her father was the artist and engraver, Douglas Percy Bliss, and it was from him that she learned the rudiments of wood engraving. However Rosalind's work as an engraver soon blossomed and as well as producing bookplates she has also worked as a book illustrator.

Rosalind's work is varied and she is willing to accept commissions for anything she considers interesting, including heraldic bookplates, a job many artists are less keen on these days. All Rosalind's bookplates are engraved on traditional wood blocks and printed from those blocks.

Guide Prices for Bookplates by Rosalind Bliss

The following is offered as guidance and prices will vary according to the size of the plate and the complexity of the design.

For the design and engraving of a bookplate approximately 7cm by 5cm the cost is £225. As an example the 'John Lovell Beddoes' bookplate shown above measures a little over 7cm by 7cm.

The cost of the block and the cost of printing are borne by the commissioner, who retains ownership of the block when the job is completed. A boxwood block measuring 7cm by 5cm would cost £15. Printing costs for that sized block would be approximately £75 for 500 plates.

All prices include post and packing within the UK, overseas prices to be costed as applicable.
